Rain dampens CSRA as equinox events spark sun greetings
A strong Gulf of Mexico storm moved up the Southeast bringing rain to Aiken County with at least half an inch overnight and more expected. Forecaster Hunter noted the storm's slow northeast crawl keeping clouds and showers through Wednesday night before clearing Thursday. Across the nation, the vernal equinox celebrations in Kansas City and around the world aim to raise awareness of global issues and foster consciousness as spring begins.

Baldwin linked to Cook murder and other crimes near Aiken
A murder warrant was issued for Baldwin in the October 6 2000 death of Jason Bernard Cook. Earlier the body of Miss Carpenter was found near Crosland Park and Cook’s body on a rural road north of Aiken. State inmate Craig Gantt said Baldwin admitted killing a woman and police connected him to Carpenter. DNA failed to tie him to the teen. In the Royal Inn case Baldwin was arrested after a motel room robbery. He testified he could not recall signing a confession and denied kicking in the motel door. Trial testimony included claims of ill timing of interrogations and videotaped questioning of a co defendant.

DOE spokesman Rick Ford says the plutonium immobilization facet of the disposition program may be delayed or cut in future budget cycles. The MOX design and construction continue, with immobilization options reconsidered. Estimated costs range from 600 million to 1.2 billion, and MOX fuel would later move to Duke Power reactors in Charlotte.
