Fed Seen Cutting Rates by Up to Three Quarters

The Federal Reserve policy board is set to meet Tuesday with expectations of a rate cut. Accident rail probe targets Amtrak crash in Iowa

Investigators combing a 8 000 foot track with twisted rail cars will analyze track samples to determine if broken rails caused the Amtrak crash that killed a Colorado woman and injured 96 others in rural Iowa on Saturday. The cause remains unclear as rails are examined.

Rivera to appear in Georgia court on murder case

A North Augusta man Reinaldo J. Rivera faces a pre trial hearing in a Richmond County Georgia courtroom Tuesday. Tapes of Rivera describing four killings in South Carolina and Georgia were played in a Columbia County hearing. Rivera described the October 2000 near fatal attack on a South Augusta woman and the deaths of 17 year old Granitevile resident Melissa Dingess and Jackson resident Tiffaney Wilson. The judge ruled the statements may be used in his death penalty trials. Additional tapes may be shown. Rivera, 37, moved from Madrid to Aiken County two years ago and has lived in the United States since 1970. He attended the University of South Carolina.

Tragedy After Lake Side Drive Car Crash Claims Local Teen

Nathan Eldridge Kennedy, 17, a junior at South Aiken High School, died Saturday from injuries after a single car crash on Lake Side Drive in Gem Lakes. The vehicle overturned at about 5:22 p.m. due to high speed for conditions. both occupants wore seat belts. Kennedy, native of South Weymouth, Mass, had lived in Aiken 11 years and was a karate student at Andy Watford's School. Memorials may go to the Nathan Kennedy Computer Fund at South Aiken High School. Rivers Funeral Home handling arrangements.
