A 75-year-old woman stopped 36 years of hiccuping after starting amantadine for newly diagnosed Parkinsons disease. Doctors at Tel Aviv University Hasharon Hospital theorize the Parkinsons caused the hiccups and note remissions were rare before treatment. The letter appears in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Investigators seek a prowler slipping into Denver area homes while residents watch TV. At least 55 burglaries since December are reported. Sgt. Whitman calls it bizarre. residents inside during thefts. Sgt. Wiederspan offers theories of thrill seeking or imitation from TV.

The first of 3200 American infantry and airborne troops flew to Honduras in a dramatic display amid the Nicaraguan war. The White House called it an emergency deployment readiness exercise prompted by Nicaraguan incursions, while Nicaragua denied border crossing and urged OAS and UN fact finding.
Independent Counsel Walsh left door open to additional indictments after the 23 count indictment against Lt. Col. Oliver North John Poindexter and arms dealers Albert Hakim and Richard V. Secord for deceitful arms sales to Iran and aiding the Contra. Grand jurors will continue investigations.
Washington reports the January trade deficit at 12.4 billion, up from December. Exports fell 10 percent to 22.3 billion while imports declined 6 percent to 34.8 billion, narrowing the gap more than some analysts expected.
Analysts note exports rose in prior months, with November up 9.4 percent and December up 4.2 percent to record highs. The overall deficit is seen shrinking slowly amid suspected January setbacks, while imports declined offering a brief bright spot.
