Cambodian troops and South Vietnamese artillery cooperated to repel a Viet Cong battalion near the Cambodian South Vietnam border. An Phu District officials directed 105mm fire, with radio contact to Cambodia. U S officials called it the first clear instance of joint action against the Viet Cong.
In West Bengal Calcutta violence left at least 13 dead and many injured as Marxist Communist party members clashed with trade unions and rival cadres during a one day general strike. The clashes spread from Calcutta to Cooch Behar 200 miles away.
Actress Jane Fonda sues the Army seeking an injunction to bar removal from Ft. Lawton and Ft. Lewis after an March 8 visit with Indians. Co plaintiff lawyer Mark Lane was also ejected. Plaintiffs allege constitutional rights violations by Defense Secretary Melvin R. Laird Secy of the Army Stanley Resor and fort commanders.
The Federal Trade Commission announced a rule prohibiting unsolicited mailing of credit cards after May 18. The ban excludes cards issued by banks airlines bus lines and railroads when used for their normal functions in commerce. The FTC labeled such mailings an unfair practice and an unfair method of competition.
The Federal Reserve Board reports February industrial production fell to 169.4 of the 1957-59 average from 170.2 in January, marking a seventh straight monthly decline. Meanwhile housing starts rose to an annual 1.3 million in February from 1.2 million in January.

In San Antonio a 12-year-old boy found a large four to five inch wingspan brown white and orange moth with a tag urging sending it to Zoology University in Toronto Canada. His mother phoned the university which confirmed the insect was part of a world migration study using released moths.
The Pentagon announced Monday that the April draft quota calls for induction of 19,000 men all into the Army. This total matches the February and March draft calls.

The J J Newberry Co announces a new Lee's Discount Department Store Division with a signed lease for a first unit on U S 1 south of Aiken. The plan targets 12 stores by 1974 across the Carolinas Georgia and Tennessee and will operate autonomously within Newberrys with N D Joiner named director.

U S 25th Infantry sweeping around Black Virgin Mountain found 25 enemy dead from air strikes and artillery, raising total in the area since Sunday to 53. Helicopter gunships and artillery also reported enemy casualties along the Cambodian border as South Vietnam tightens controls amid war.
Aiken County peach growers assessed damage after a third night of freezing temperatures. Frost covered the Ridge area north of Aiken and Spartanburg expected more losses. Clemson expert Gambrell noted crop destruction at Sand Hill and widespread preliminary losses in four counties.
Aiken police report a 32 year old man Willie Hightower of Florence Street was found dead in his bathroom early this morning. Investigators Patrolman William Parker and Sgt Ralph Center notified Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home and coroner James Gregory. He was pronounced dead at Aiken County Hospital.
