Aiken County Council unanimously adopts revised 1980-81 budget after L C Greene outlines cuts totaling 215 119 in general fund. Contingency reserve holds 90000 for emergencies. carryover 142 925. Revenue projected at 7 047 846. County attorney says action balances expenditures with revenues.
Aiken County Council rejected a $270,000 local funding request for USC Aiken Fine Arts Center leaving a $3.5 million project in jeopardy. Commission chair Robert E. Penland warns of reassembly and rising costs while state funds may be at risk if local support falters.
The Aiken County Board of Education plans a public referendum to fund major school maintenance. A recent meeting reviewed a three year program from John Morgan detailing needs in air conditioning major repairs and operations with inflation assumptions cited.

Hundreds of runners join the fifth annual Triple Crown Road Races at H Odell Weeks Center on Whiskey Road. Events start with a kids fun run at 8:00 8:45 a.m., then 10 mile 9:30 a.m. and awards at 11:30. Bob Varsha of Atlanta seeks his third title. Entry forms available at Aiken Running Center and Aiken Recreation Department. Late registration Saturday 7 8 p.m. at the center. extra $1 fee.
