Cleo J. Scott a former Aiken County Clerk of Court received a Governor's pardon from the South Carolina Probation Parole and Pardon Board on February 25. She had pleaded nolo contendere in 1976 to official misconduct in office and the board cited her present and past conduct and community involvement. The pardon clears the charges and she now works as a switchboard operator for the Aiken County Sheriff's Department.

Aikenite Rena Moormann, a senior at Aiken High, visited Clemson University while her friend, who plans to attend USC, accompanied her. The friend then said she would wait one month to be impressed by USC before transferring to Clemson.
A two week ACSD Graniteville probe led to arrests of Charles Adams Wilbur Coach Dennis Garrett Henderson Bryant Jr and Ralph Quiller on possession to distribute marijuana and other drugs. Police seized mescaline LSD cocaine marijuana morphine and stimulants plus cash firearms and two vehicles. A mobile home owned by Adams burned in a fire at 6:14 am with no injuries reported and investigators note unusual flare behavior.
Wagener Salley High School suffers a long standing boiler failure raising frigid gym conditions and cold showers. The outmoded burner needs replacement costing 3500 to 4000 dollars while district wide repairs exceed 10 million. The school board plans a summer referendum to fund building improvements.
