The Clemson University Faculty Senate met Thursday and approved a 30 to 3 action related to President Bill Atchley. Reports say the board of trustees will decide his future at a hastily called meeting today. The trustees reportedly split five in support five wanting to oust and three undecided.
Mayor Riley says it is too late to stop Warner Bros from filming North and South in Charleston next week. The city faces criticism from council committee members and residents over closed streets and plans to spread dirt on Legare Meeting and Church streets, risking home paint from dust blown onto properties.
Doctors may return artificial heart recipient Murray Haydon to surgery to stop bleeding in his chest. The left chest bleeding has continued after monitoring lines were removed, and a decision by the medical team was expected later that afternoon.
An 80 percent chance of occasional rain tonight with a low in the upper 40s. Tomorrow has a 30 percent rain chance, ending in the afternoon as clouds clear and a high in the upper 60s. Discovery of pilings in Hitchcock Woods suggests a buried trestle from the 1832 Charleston to Hamburg Railroad, potentially still present in the preserved roadbed managed by the Hitchcock Foundation.
The Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce invites churches civic groups and businesses to join Aiken's annual clean up Rakin headed by St Marys Community Life group Optimists Club Wal Mart and Palmetto Landscape. St Marys Community Life will meet at 9 am Saturday in front of the church at Park Avenue and York Street to clear the two block area around the church. The Optimists will tackle South Boundary between Chesterfield Street and Banks Mill Road with plans for broad participation.
The Aiken Jaycees sponsor a drawing tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Jaycee Hut for near the rail parking for the Aiken Trials and Triple Crown opener on Saturday March 16. Parking costs range from 15 to 40 dollars depending on row and camper spots. Tickets for the Trials and Hunt Meet are on sale with Aiken tickets not yet available.
