Hopelands Gardens owes its shape to Robert E. Marvin
The city of Aiken acquired a winter colony home from the Iselin estate and enlisted landscape architect Robert E. Marvin to shape Hopelands Gardens. Marvin, famed for Beaufort waterfront park Finley Park and Kaway Gardens in Georgia, helped adapt the original blueprint for Whiskey Road grounds. His artistic vision shaped a lasting legacy that Arkenites and visitors have enjoyed for decades, and his death Tuesday ends an era of local landscape achievement.
