Eucalyptus in Aiken: A Native Australian Tree Turned Local Landmark
In Aiken a trial plantings site hosts about two dozen eucalyptus trees, the largest collection in South Carolina. Bob McCartney and Tom Earle led the effort to test hardy species suited to the climate, with diverse foliage scents and peeling bark.
