The Pennsylvania Superior Court refused former York Mayor Charlie Robertson’s bid to have the murder charges against him reviewed. The case concerns the 1969 death of a Black woman in York amid the city’s race riots, case details remain under appeal.
Atlanta pitcher Kevin Millwood hurled seven and two thirds innings of shutout baseball as the Braves defeated an opponent 4 to 1, ending a two-game losing streak that had stretched over more than a month. Millwood’s effort anchored the win, with the bullpen closing out the final outs.

Voters in the Third Congressional District have one last chance to decide before Tuesday's runoff as the Aiken County Republican Party hosts a debate between Rep. Gresham Barrett and Rep. Jim Klauber Saturday at 7 pm in the Aiken County Council Chambers on Richland Avenue. Barrett led district-wide with 44 percent in June, falling short of a majority, while Klauber was certified as the runoff’s second place finisher.
In Trenton New Jersey the MMs maker announced purple won the color poll with 41 percent after over 10 million votes from 290 countries on internet and phone. Purple will join red blue brown green orange and yellow in the candy mix in August amid a star studded New York gala with Ashanti and Wyclef Jean.
The White House backs a legislative plan led by Senator Thurmond and Representative Graham to dispose of weapons usable plutonium at the Savannah River Site. The administration supports fabricating the material into mixed oxide fuel and imposes fines if the Energy Department misses processing deadlines.
Federal documents released after a lawsuit by The Associated Press and other media groups show the Savannah River Site can safely store plutonium long term and resist earthquakes. The suit challenged DOE's refusal to release pages under nuclear information laws. If processing remains stalled past 2017, all plutonium shipments to the state must be removed.
The Third District debate takes place Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Aiken County Court chamber at 736 Richland Avenue. Each candidate receives 40 tickets, with remaining seats filled by party officials and press, while public seating is limited under a 45 minute limit.
