The hike will raise a 75 thousand dollar home’s property taxes by 28.80 dollars. Public speakers urged caution citing fixed incomes and budget constraints at the district.
Aiken County Council weighs cost cutting to balance the 2002 03 budget without a millage increase. Proposals include halting Mattie C Hall Healthcare Center operations, repurposing a 1 mill construction set aside for USC Aiken, and restructuring worker compensation to avert a potential 59 percent rise.
