Inmate Escape Near Plattsburgh Shapes New York Manhunt
Gov. Cuomo said the two convicted murderers David Sweat and Richard Matt may be close or possibly in Mexico after cutting from a prison near the Canadian border. A prison employee, Joyce Mitchell, backed out as getaway driver nine days ago, complicating the search across Adirondack fields and woods as hundreds of officers scoured the area. Residents stayed indoors amid tense, ongoing pursuit.
