Barton wins District 6 seat on Aiken County Council

Incumbent Charles Barton defeats Joe Randall 751 to 545 for a 57.95 percent share to retain the District 6 seat. Graniteville concerns over the Jan 6 2005 train disaster spill and Avondale Mills layoffs shaped the campaign as Barton pledges outreach and possible funding for railroad realignment, health screenings, and new council vehicles. Randall congratulates Barton and calls for continued Graniteville job and health efforts.

In South Carolina races Kit Spires leads Ken Clark in District 96 Republican primary with 20 of 22 precincts. Rays finishes third. In US House races Michael Ellisor beats David White in District 2 Democratic primary as 98 percent results show Ellisor 10,966 to 7,546. Ballenger wins District 3 Republican primary over Cheney with 9,665 to 4,703 as ballots show 352 of 354 precincts reporting.
