Sen. Tommy Moore dominated statewide Democratic balloting in the South Carolina gubernatorial race and will face Gov. Mark Sanford in November. In a post interview on ETV Moore attacked Sanford’s record, accusing him of political gimmicks and finger pointing while presenting his own record as a public servant aiding South Carolina.
Governor Mark Sanford easily captured the Republican nomination as 72 percent of precincts reported. Oscar Lovelace ran a poorly funded campaign and claimed the governor should work closer with legislators to move the state forward. Voter Angela Chambers criticized Sanford for not uniting the office. Sanford declined repeated debate requests and avoided naming Lovelace.
Forecasters say rain from Tropical Storm Alberto saturated the CSRA over two days but will be brief. Totals ranged from one to three inches Monday with spotty showers Tuesday. The system moved toward eastern North Carolina by midday. Scientists warn the rainfall still leaves a sixteen inch yearly deficit.
