Authorities search for Stephen Ray Morris 18 from Bath who walked away from Aiken Youth Corrections Center at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rodney Hutson and Donald Scott from Charleston left around 2 a.m. and were later found in Lillington, North Carolina. The center houses non-violent first-time offenders.

Midland Valley School Groundbreaking in Horsecreek Valley
About 60 officials and community leaders attended the ceremony at the Ludlow Lake Road site for the new Midland Valley School. The 139,216 square foot facility sits on a 170 acre tract overlooking Horsecreek Valley with T B Willis calling the site one of the prettiest in Aiken County. McDonough Construction Company of Atlanta won the contract with a base bid of 5 957 000 and work is to be substantially completed by May 18 1981.

Robert E. Ashmore honored at the Pinnacle Club in Augusta on May 31 marking his retirement from Riegel Textile Corporation after a 27 year career. A Batesburg native and Mercer University graduate, he rose from salesman to Vice President Sales of the Convenience Products Division, helping grow disposable diaper demand and expanding Riegel plants to Aiken Maryville Mo Porterville Cal. He and his wife moved to Aiken in 1973 and remain active in First Presbyterian Church and Houndslake Country Club.
