Tower hearing delayed over Aiken zoning for BellSouth tower

Aiken residents will wait as the City Council postpones a second reading and public hearing on a zoning change for a 0.39 acre Parcel on Colony Parkway off Whiskey Road. Crown Castle and BellSouth PCI seek a build to site tower with alternate sites being reviewed at citizen and official request. The rezoning does not guarantee a tower.

DNR urges cautious travel on South Carolina waterways

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources urges boaters to stay safe as heat draws crowds to rivers lakes and beaches. Spokesman Mike Willis notes 412000 registered SC watercraft ranking eighth nationally in registrations and explains main accident causes: failure to keep a proper lookout and operator inexperience. South Carolina will join the Atlantic Nuclear Waste Compact with New Jersey and Connecticut, ending the state's status as a dumping ground. Gov. Hodges signed the bill promising disposal options, with SC to be admitted July 1 after petitions are granted.

Jordan Swing Shop offers handmade swings and gliders in Bath

Bobby Jordan runs Jordan's Swing Shop at 155 Dixie Clay Road with his wife Helen. He crafts gliders Aframes and swings, using a background in remodeling and carpentry after more than 30 years with United Merchants. The shop opened in 1982 and serves the local area.

Aiken woodworker Jordan showcases swings at craft show

Jordan says locals support his furniture business through word of mouth and shows. He builds all winter, sells at three to four area craft shows yearly, often selling out. His swings attract buyers from Atlanta and Columbia as he plans to display at the Experience Aiken Craft Show at H. Odell Weeks Center Friday 11 am to 5 pm and Saturday 9 am to 5 pm.
