Deputy Don wins DARE Officer of the Year honor

Aiken County's Deputy Don Henry, known as Deputy Don, is named South Carolina DARE Officer of the Year. The award was presented at a Myrtle Beach luncheon, with colleagues praising his engaging school visits and trust-building approach to anti drug education for students from Oakwood Windsor and Redcliffe Elementary. Henry joined the Sheriff's Office in 1994 and has worked with DARE since 1999.

WSRC Earns 11.4 Million DOE Award Fee

The Westinghouse Savannah River Co earned 11 404 075 of a 14 382 500 award fee from the Department of Energy for the latest period DOE assessed performance across six business areas including high level waste environmental restoration and tritium plus five safety focused areas. DOE manager Greg Rudy praised HLW program management noting no major safety or environmental events despite multiple system upsets.

Senate OKs payments for workers

The Senate approved a program to provide medical benefits and at least 200000 dollars per worker, including Savannah River Site employees, exposed to radiation since the 1950s. The plan would also cover silica and beryllium exposure in Ohio and other states, but excludes cancer from chemical exposure and faces slow progress.
