Anamika Veeramani, 14, from North Royalton Ohio, captured the 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee title in Washington DC with the word stromu llar after a tense finale that drew TV scrutiny. The victory ends a long Ohio drought as 273 spellers competed over three days.
