Brooks Rejoins Gateway Arts Program A Loses Funding Then Returns
Katherine Brooks returns as music instructor to the Gateway gifted and talented arts program now serving about 150 students in grades 3-12 after a funding gap in 2003 and 2004. She previously directed the program into the late 1980s and led the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts summer academy before retiring and returning to Gateway.

Aiken educators win Public Education Partners' Great Ideas grants
Seventeen Aiken County teachers and administrators will receive Great Ideas grants from Public Education Partners. Grants range from 350 to 500 dollars and fund innovation from character education to iPod discussions and hands on reading and math activities. Bridget Coleman plans to expand a robotics program for grades through Nano Quest, a robotics challenge. Other winners include staff from Paul Knox Middle School, Hammond Hill Elementary, South Aiken High, and several other elementary and middle schools.
