Fermata Club pool on track for early July opening

Fermata Club plans a late June to early July pool opening after delays. The L shaped facility features a 25 yard and 25 meter multi lane setup, a state of the art filtration system, new bathrooms, and heated swimming year round. Masters swim, water aerobics, and lap swimming are planned, with memberships available and the club on Whiskey Road in Aiken.

Defendants in McMillan suit file response

Defendants named in the lawsuit filed by former New Edenton Police Chief Van McMillan, who says his dismissal from the police department in 2004 was racially motivated, have filed a response in federal court. Attorney Vance Bettis said they are answering the allegations without elaboration.

Incoming police chief named to replace early departed head

Graniteville funds top issue at meeting

Graniteville residents packed an Aiken County Council meeting to oppose using 200000 from a state aid package for patrol cars. They pressed for 340000 to pay health screenings for those affected by the January 6 2005 Norfolk Southern derailment, urging Norfolk Southern cover the costs or use disaster relief funds.

Candidates face off in Republican primary for House District 96

Voters in eastern Aiken County will pick among three Republican candidates in the June 13 primary for South Carolina House District 96. Incumbent Keneth Clark faces Dean Rawls and Kit Spires. The winner likely meets Democrat Sadie Wannamaker in November.
