Anglican Bishops Affirm Virgin Birth and Resurrection
London Anglican bishops reaffirm belief in the virgin birth and resurrection while allowing differing views. Critics say the statement fails to declare these as historical facts, risking ambiguity about core Christian beliefs. The 39 page document, led by Archbishop Robert Runcie, will be debated at the summer synod in York.

United Methodists Welcome New Bishop Regardless of Gender
Spartanburg AP. South Carolina United Methodists approve a resolution to welcome their next bishop regardless of gender or ethnic origin. Delegates at Ford College ratified the budget, set up a women’s ministerial scholarship, and rejected hiring an administrative assistant to the bishop. The committee suggested a black bishop could be named in 1988 to lead the state’s 244,000 members, but the group will welcome whoever is appointed for the eight-year term by the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference. The conference budget totals $12.3 million, up 3.9 percent from last year, the smallest increase in a decade.
