An Aiken man died late Friday after the vehicle he rode in crashed into a tree on Highland Park Drive. John Henry Hanniford, 30, of Andrews Circle, died at the scene from massive head injuries. The vehicle, a 1985 Ford truck, was driven by Michael Summers, 40, who was charged with felony driving under the influence and driving under suspension. Summers and Hanniford were not wearing seat belts. The crash occurred about 11 p.m. near Hayne Avenue. speed may have contributed. The incident is under investigation by Aiken Public Safety.
