A senior military official said Crown Prince Dipendra, 30, opened fire at the royal palace in Katmandu, killing the king, queen, a prince and five others before shooting himself. The incident left the crown prince responsible for the massacre of the royal family.

Graduates honor lost classmates at two Aiken high schools

Amid Friday night commencements at Aiken High and South Aiken High, graduates remembered missing peers by pinning white ribbons and leaving a decorated chair empty. County picks interim CEO for Aiken County

The Aiken County Council voted 7-1 to hire Lexington based consultant Gene Klugh as interim administrator replacing Joan Wilson who has served eight months. The change takes effect Monday with Klugh anticipated to hold 60 to 90 days while a permanent chief is sought. Klugh will be paid hourly based on the 100000 full time salary. He has interim admin experience in Bamberg Colleton Spartanburg Pickens Barnwell Abbeville and holds a master's in political science.

Aiken Prep breaks ground on new site

Aiken Preparatory School held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new campus on Friday afternoon. U S Rep Lindsey Graham and Aiken Mayor Fred Cavanaugh led remarks near Hitchcock Woods. Graham referenced local history dating to 1916 and noted the school’s longtime role in the community.
