Maddox Fears AIDS Risk From Unconventional Cancer Treatment
Former Georgia Governor Lester Maddox says he may have been exposed to AIDS through cancer therapies at Lawrence Burton’s Immunology Research Center in Grand Bahama Island. AIDS Virus Reproduces Very Fast
Boston researchers at Dana-Farber and Harvard report a fast acting genetic system in the AIDS virus boosting its gene transcription up to about 1,000 times. They identify a master control region and a responsive element that create a positive feedback loop driving rapid viral replication in helper T cells. The work, published in Cell, may inform genetic engineering though not immediate AIDS cures.
