On the eve of Christmas 1982 Linda Bradberry, 35, a Sunday school teacher and beauty salon owner, was found shot in a blue AMC Pacer outside a deserted store on New Holland Road. After two and a half years no arrests have been made in the case, one of 16 unsolved murders perplexing Aiken County law enforcement.
The Commerce Department reports the U S foreign trade deficit at 13.4 billion for last month, fueled by higher petroleum imports. Six month total stands at 70.7 billion with 1985 full year forecast between 140 and 150 billion, well above 1984.

Aiken County Planning Commission staff received a preliminary plat request from James Ford for a 42 lot Ludlow Crossing subdivision on the north side of Ascanga Lake Road and east of Blanchard Road. The August meeting will review this proposal. Saddlewood II, by Saddlewood Development Corporation, has 28 lots and already received preliminary plat approval.
The U S Department of Energy will pay South Carolina 12000 to settle spills at the Savannah River Plant and will revise its spill response plan. The agreement requires DHEC board approval and stems from six spills dating back to 1977 including sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide incidents with no environmental harm alleged.
Cape Canaveral AP report describes Space shuttle Challenger with one main engine shutdown and trouble in several experiments. A $60 million solar telescope device and two other sun observing telescopes showed power and overheating issues while Mission Control troubleshoots.
