President Reagan said the economy is improving but cautioned the rebound will be slow and painful. He predicts better conditions in the second half of the year while insisting sustained effort and patience are required to restore prosperity.
An early morning thunderstorm cut power to about 1600 homes from Fox Chase to New Ellenton and Jackson. Insulator damage and blown fuses caused outages from 6:30 to 7:00 a.m. Substations remained off briefly with restoration by 8:30 a.m. North Augusta reports an isolated Willow Wick outage cleared by 6:00 a.m.
Ed and Brenda Bryant met former President Jimmy Carter in Plains Georgia during a business trip to Americus. Carter spoke with them casually during postcard mailing and speculation arose about a possible political comeback.

Szablewski outlines districts and a 30 foot road setback while excluding public works, interior renovations, and single family and farm structures from approval.
