Jobless rate climbs in South Carolina June

South Carolina unemployment rose to 11.5 percent in June with 174000 people jobless, up 3600 from May and 47000 from June 1981. Gains occurred in retail trade and services as tourism rose. manufacturing hours edged up to 38.7 weekly. Revco posted 49.6 million in fiscal year earnings, opened 70 stores, and awarded two employees 7500 each. Kimberly-Clark, SCN, Florida Steel, and Owens-Corning figures follow.

Women Break Ground In SRP Reactor Control Room

Barbara Jennings and three other Savannah River Plant employees become the first four women supervisors in the SRP reactor control room. Trickett and Cott are already certified after a nine month program. Jennings and Hill await certification. Training covered seven areas including radiation control. hands on work and shifts build experience. Jennings notes no bias and expects more women in nuclear fields as Du Pont recruits. Jennings aims for certification by August 2 after completing exams this month.
