Aiken Senior Nancy Blackwell Shines as Ventriloquist
Nancy Blackwell of Aiken South Carolina a rising senior at Aiken High School has pursued ventriloquism since early childhood. She won first place at the Junior Achievement Management Conference talent show in Greensboro North Carolina in 1983 and has performed before crowds up to 2000 at a country music festival. Her act uses partner Johnathon a bird named Amanda and a now unnamed sleepy dog. She recalls occasional stage nerves and jokes about a Charlie McCarthy dummy retired in the attic. Nancy plans teaching as a career and may pursue ventriloquism long term though she sees it as challenging.
