British Prime Minister James Callaghan Turkish leader Turan Ganes and Greek official George Mavros opened talks in Geneva to seek a permanent Cyprus peace. Over three days they planned a communique backing a cease fire and a working group to handle issues including the Kyrenia Nicosia corridor, Greek officers' withdrawal, and restoration of constitutional government.
In Huntsville Texas the head of an inmate group declares ten hostages will be killed unless prisoners receive automatic weapons ammunition and bullet proof vests. Officials say seven convicts are with the hostages while one is not an active participant.
The IRA said it penetrated airport security to plant a two pound gelignite bomb on a British Airways Trident and warned it will strike again. An anonymous Belfast Brigade representative claimed the device found Tuesday did not explode and vowed future bombs will be primed.
