Veterans honor 100th monument rededication in Aiken
SCV master of ceremonies Cliff Tennent praised veterans as the rededicated monument marked 100 years. The Sons of the Confederate Veterans asked the council to fly a state flag and three Confederate variants during the ceremony. Victims Identified in Weekend I-20 Car Crash
Jesus Sandoval Leon of Mexico and 22 year old Julio Cesar Martinez Nunez of Sutton Springs Road York were killed in a high speed I-20 crash near the 37 mile marker. The 1991 Blazer reportedly traveled up to 90 mph, was not belted, and hit a Dodge truck after side swiping another car. Officials say alcohol may be involved and the case remains under investigation. This brings Aiken County traffic deaths to 24 for the year, far above 2000’s total.
