Nation Jackson Mississippi novelist Eudora Welty died Monday at Baptist Medical Center at age 92 after a battle with pneumonia. Welty gained international acclaim for her short stories and novels and earned a Pulitzer Prize.

Aiken County Sheriff's Office reports 12 year old Dominique Blocker of 155 Weaver Street found an unloaded handgun, loaded it, and chambered a round. The weapon fired in a bathroom injuring his left index finger. he was taken for surgery.
