Program Just Peachy for Needy Neighbors

North Augusta resident Maury Rice and volunteers have redirected surplus peaches since 1981 to aid about 100000 people across North Augusta Aiken and Augusta. They collect bruised or near peak fruit from several peach packing operations and distribute it through Golden Harvest Food Bank and local ministries.

Eulalie Salley Yard Sale Supports Memory Walk

Agencies receive Homeland Security grant funding

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office will receive over 200000 in federal Homeland Security funds via the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division as part of a seven million state initiative. Funds will upgrade the emergency operations center add a hazardous materials vehicle and trailer and establish a mobile command post for unified countywide response. An additional grant funds officer protection kits and EMS equipment with a separate 172828 award to the EMS service for the Chemical Ordnance Biological Radiological team.

A 1993 Isuzu Rodeo driver died when the vehicle left Vaucluse Road and rolled over on a wet night. Speed and conditions contributed. In a separate case, Andrew Dale Williams Jr. pleaded guilty to three counts of filing false sales tax returns for Dale’s grocery in Graniteville, with five years probation per count and $48,620.13 restitution.

An officer addressed Canary Lane barking complaints. On Bunting Lane a mailbox and post suffered about 25 in damage from a Thursday night incident. nearby debris and a small white pickup headed toward Lowe Street were noted. Thursday thefts totaling 630 involved stereo gear and CDs from locked Hippodrome vehicles. An Augusta woman jailed Thursday for about 42 in theft from Knox Avenue store. Edgefield Road shoplift netted four cigarette cartons worth 100.
