Former Aiken officer pled guilty in sex abuse case

George A. Demedicis 54 admitted two counts of sexual assault on a minor female and faces 15 years plus a 10 year concurrent term. The ex officer who served from 1976 1989 and later worked as a firefighter EM T at Savannah River Site was arrested in January. The victim mother uncovered a diary detailing weekly assaults dating to when the girl was about 10, with six years of offenses.

Fawn Visits Nancy Carson Library During Storytime

The Nancy Carson Library hosted a five week old fawn during a Friday afternoon visit. Libarian Donnell Shelley said the unnamed young deer is being bottle fed and cared for by the Reese family with assistance from Shelly. The fawn has become a social curiosity for locals and may return for future library visits.

Strong storms bring high winds and rain in area

The storms Friday caused two wrecks not rain related, according to Capt. Wendell Hall of the Aiken Department of Public Safety. Sgt. Wilson Dandy noted wet roads at the Abbeville Avenue Chesterfield Street crash, while Cpl. Tony Bell reported two minor accidents outside the city.

Robber hits two Aiken area hotels in 10 minutes

A man claiming a gun robbed the Hampton Inn on Whiskey Road and tried the American Hearth Inn on Richland Ave within ten minutes Friday night. Police link the two incidents, noting the same large framed black male, green shirt and cap involved in both. The Hampton Inn robbery yielded money. the first visit at American Hearth Inn did not.

Monsignor Evatt Dies in Anderson

Former Aiken priest Monsignor Thomas Evatt, 53, died Friday in Anderson after a leg cut led to fatal bleeding. He had served at St. Mary Help of Christians from 1994 to 2002 and resigned under a cloud of suspicion. Funeral details were set for St. Joseph Church with Bishop Baker presiding.

Aiken County backs S C employment dip
