Government posts 270.5 billion deficit for first nine months
The Treasury reports a 270.5 billion shortfall for October through June, more than double the prior year’s nine month deficit. Revenue declines include individual tax payments down about 6 percent and corporate taxes down 15.8 percent, while spending rises 6.9 percent led by Social Security and Health programs.
