Beech Island church history celebrated with new book
Beech Island's Silver Bluff Baptist Church marks its heritage Monday with a 6 pm book presentation. Local educator Dr. Frank Roberson, author of Where a Few Gather in My Name, says the 1750 établissement makes it America's oldest Black Baptist church. The illustrated softcover, 100 pages, was officially registered with the Library of Congress. The book links church history to the spread of Christianity from South Carolina to Jamaica, Canada and Africa. Contact 827-0706 for details.
