Site clears NRC uranium recycle hurdle
Nuclear Fuel Services of Erwin Tennessee earns NRC approval on one of three license amendments to recycle weapons grade uranium from Savannah River Site into reactor fuel. The plan mixes highly enriched uranium with natural uranium to dilute it so it cannot be used for weapons. Ferguson of NFS says the project will generate power equivalent to 800,000 rail cars of coal. The remaining amendments will authorize a new conversion facility and a facility to produce reactor fuel.
