Aiken County residents contributed 40000 to Golden Harvest Food Bank during Wells Fargo Border to Border Challenge. The campaign aimed to raise 150000 statewide with corporate matching, funding the BackPack program that provides weekend meals for 250 local children.
Golden Harvest Food Bank notes the BackPack Program has grown from two elementary schools to eight within five years and now serves over 3,000 children in its 30 county service area. It costs 6400 dollars to start in a new school, with 160 dollars to sponsor a child for one year.
