Basic Manners Course for Dogs at Aiken SPCA
A basic manners course for dogs six months and older runs on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 17, 24, and 31 at the Aiken SPCA on Wire Road. The $60 fee includes a $20 discount with proof of adoption from any area shelter. Proceeds support the Aiken SPCA. Register at 648-6863.

Aiken Native Brings Interactive Art to Columbia Show
Aiken artist Hollis Brown Thornton, now based in Chicago, returns to South Carolina for a July 12 opening at the Columbia Museum of Art with Great Sea Creatures & Winged Birds. The seven-book piece forms a circular installation depicting Genesis Day Five. Thornton, 26, a USC fine arts graduate, discussed his photocopy transfer technique and gradual artistic evolution from drawing to painting.
