Crime Stoppers program in Aiken County faces funding strain
The CSRA Crime Stoppers of Aiken County notes its cash rewards for tipsters have drained the bank. Aimed at solving crimes, the program already paid rewards for four cases since December, with expenses like phone services and International dues. The board appeals for donations from business and individuals to sustain anonymity guided tips and pay ongoing costs.

How Crime Stoppers Works and How to Help
An informant calls the tip line and receives a code number. The information goes anonymously to law enforcement, which follows up. If there is an arrest, authorities report back to Crime Stoppers. The board uses a point system to set award amounts based on crime type, risk, solvings, property recovered, and arrests. A check is issued to a local bank where the informant cashes the amount after presenting the code. To contribute or volunteer, contact Mrs. Adams at work or home. To report a crime, call 642-1798.
