Marine Band to Perform Free Concert at Hopeland Gardens
The Depot Band from Parris Island, organized in 1915 and based at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, will headline a free 7 pm concert at Hopeland Gardens sponsored by the Aiken Recreation Department. Led by Lt Melvin M. Tillar with drum major Lt D.R. Wolfe, the group tours area schools and parades.

Final County Budget Vote Tomorrow
Final reading of the 1985 86 budget by Aiken County Council looms tomorrow with a choice between last year’s budget, the administrator’s $13.3 million plan, or a compromise. The 3 percent cost of living increase would push to 12.6 million, funding cuts for 15 20 positions. the administrator’s plan would raise millage to 50.5 and add taxes on home values, while last year’s budget keeps current rates. If approved, debt service and indigent care funds are not included in the 12.6 million figure.
