EDGEFIELD The U S District Court granted summary judgment for Edgefield County Communications Inc in the suit by W W Mims publisher of The Edgefield Advertiser alleging a merger of three county weeklies created a monopoly. The suit claimed federal antitrust violation and a 149 year old paper faced decline.

Woman Indicted for Manslaughter in Aiken County
A Gloverville woman, Betty Joan Moyer, was indicted by the Aiken County Grand Jury for manslaughter in the February shooting death of her husband Heyward Eugene Moyer. The jury had previously refused to indict for murder. He died several hours after being shot in the back.
