Mattie W Bodie died today in an Aiken County hospital. She resided at 725 Park Ave. Valera Hainaut Gillispie died yesterday in an Aiken County hospital aged 66. She lived at 1142 Alderman St and attended St John s United Methodist Church. A memorial service is set for tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Stephen D Posey Funeral Home officiated by Revs M Eugene Mullikin and Michael L Vandiver. She was born in Pennsylvania and lived in Aiken for years. Survivors include daughter Jayne G Blood of Atlanta and sisters Dora Davis and Lowell Sollberger. Memorials to American Cancer Society are requested.

Flags at half staff in De Queen after four of its seven police officers were killed when a gravel truck jackknifed on a wet highway as their vehicle carried a funeral procession for state trooper Louis Bryant. The truck driver, George McCoy of Sibley, was hospitalized in stable condition. The town sought aid from area police agencies as residents faced the tragedy.
