An unofficial count at 5 a.m. EDT lists 419 fatalities, with California recording the most deaths at 45 and Texas 28. five states reported zero fatalities. The National Safety Council had forecast 400 to 500 deaths before the holiday.

Education Is Main Issue Of Election
