Shootings Leave Two Dead in Aiken County Fourth of July

Two homicides and a fatal shooting marred the Fourth of July in Aiken County. Myrtle Carpenter, 50, was charged with the murder of Gerald Greenway, 44, found in Carpenter’s carport with an automatic shotgun believed used. Sarah Youmans, 43, charged with assault then murder after Herbert Youmans died from gunshot wounds on Schultz Hill near North Augusta. Nathaniel Coates Jr., 22, was shot. brother George Coates, 28, was charged with two counts of assault and battery with intent to kill after a fight in Toole Hill left one injured and the other jailed.

Court Imprisons Couple Over Court Funds Theft

In Augusta, former Richmond County superior and state courts official Mrs Stewart P Garrett Jr and her husband were sentenced to 20 and 15 years respectively for stealing 9010 from court fines and bonds.
