Ford Motor Co increases average retail base prices on cars and trucks built in North America by about 1.3 percent or $58. The move follows earlier statements there would be no further hikes this model year and comes days after Chrysler also announced steel cost driven increases.

San Diego, AP report: C Arnholt Smith, long allied with President Nixon and former banking and industrial magnate, pleads innocent to a 25 count indictment accusing him of conspiring to misapply 170 million dollars in bank funds. If convicted on all counts, he faces up to 125 years and a 175000 dollar fine.

South Korea says a navy patrol boat exchanged fire with a suspected North Korean spy boat and sank it off the southeast coast. One South Korean sailor was killed and three wounded. North Korea previously claimed three of its boats sank a South Korean patrol boat on June 28 amid spy mission allegations.
