The Aiken Preparatory School plans to sell about 350 acres on the west side of University Parkway at roughly 1000 dollars per acre. The buyer and use of funds were not disclosed as negotiations near finalization. APS had an option with a Houston mining firm six months ago to explore kaolin on the site.

Fire destroyed the Beverly Glen home of L A Lakers star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 3 million dollars in damage. Two occupants were inside the two story North Stone Canyon Road house near Bel Air. no injuries reported. Firefighters battled the blaze from 3 44 a m to 4 25 a m and the cause was under routine investigation. Abdul Jabbar was in Boston for a Lakers game against the Celtics.
