Antiques in the Heart of Aiken Show Draws Northeast Dealers

Antiques in the Heart of Aiken returns for its fourth year with more than 20 regional dealers from Alabama Georgia Texas North Carolina and South Carolina. The Aiken Center for the Arts hosts paintings furniture and decorative pieces January 31 through February 2 with tickets five dollars for the weekend. The event features food at the Sweetheart Tea Room and a Sunday brunch with hours 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 30 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Proceeds support arts education at the center.

Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol Forms Youth Board

The Aiken Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Services launches Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol YADA a teen advisory group to prevent substance use. Members aged 15 to 20 will act as peer educators promote awareness and lead community service projects. They will meet 430 to 630 pm Monday at the Aiken Center.

Shriners Skip Savannah St Patrick Parade Again

The Savannah St Patrick's Day parade narrows its size for a second year prompting the Alee Temple Shriners to boycott and relocate their march. Warren Brown warns that if not invited the 2 000 local Shriners will not participate and shift to another city. The parade had previously been cut to reduce length after more than 300 floats and bands.
