Snowstorm Grimly Drops Heavy Snow Across Upstate and Midlands
South Carolina endured a fast moving storm that dumped 4 to 7 inches from Spartanburg to Lancaster, with up to 10 inches reported in some areas and a dusting in the far south. Temperatures plummeted to near 5 to 15 degrees, wind chills to minus 10, prompting wind chill advisories. The Salvation Army shelter in Greenville opened its gym to house up to 600 people with 140 beds, pledging no one would be turned away. About 893 accidents were logged statewide, but no serious injuries or deaths were reported.
