A study notes South Carolina remains a popular college destination as full-time enrollment at public schools grows 36.8 percent from 2001 to 2011 despite low incomes and high tuition. Seat belt use linked to fatalities in South Carolina crashes
Statewide data show about 55 percent of fatally injured drivers lacked seat belts, with 50 to 55 percent of fatalities involving unbelted drivers. In Aiken County last year 11 of 22 fatal crashes involved alcohol, and youths 15 to 24 were often speed-related. A 2014 start saw two early Aiken fatalities, including an 18 year old from Evans, Georgia.
