Drawdown tests threaten Augusta Riverwalk area from dam removal
Savannah River recedes Tuesday as Army Corps of Engineers tests water drop after removing a dam 13 miles from Augusta. A five day drawdown may expose mud flats in South Carolina and end the 63 year old New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam, raising concerns about Riverwalk and regional water intakes. Residents petitioned Mayor Young to sue the corps. the city declined. Rep Norwood coordinates leaders to seek a resolution before dam closure.
